Home Renovations: Mixing Old and New

Charleston is known for it's historic charm, and the homes throughout the area are no different. So many buyers come to us wanting something "updated with character." Many builders are adding finishing touches like shiplap and gas lanterns to give new homes that "old feel." Turn on an episode of Fixer Upper, and you will be amazed by the way Chip and Joanna Gaines marry old charm with modern updates. Today we were in a home with an old brick kitchen floor. When renovating that kitchen, using the floor as the focal point, and building new cabinets/backsplash/counters that compliment the brick would be gorgeous!

Another easy update is painting wood paneled walls white. It will keep the charm, but give the home a brighter, more updated look.

What updates have you done to an old home, and how have you preserved the character? We'd love to see your before and after pictures. Follow us on Instagram to share! @HunnicuttTeam
