Eat local, Be local!
Its that time of year when the produce is fresh, the flowers are in bloom, and local artists are sharing everything from canvas to candles. Its Farmers Market season, and there are plenty of markets to explore across the lowcountry!
The main market downtown begins this Saturday, and runs through November. Saturdays from 8am- 2pm in Marion Square, enjoy fresh straight from the farm fruits and veggies, unique prepared foods (check out the pepper jellies and salsas!) some of our favorite food vendors serving up everything from chicken and waffles to banh mi, local art, and live entertainment.
Everything is local, and its an awesome spot to sample your way through our culture. Check out the newest coffee roasters, or put together a pallet of coasters from each of your favorite Charleston sights.
There's always entertainment for the kids, and like so many places, the farmers market is dog-friendly. We recommend starting your Saturday with breakfast at the farmers market before exploring downtown.
The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market kicked-off Tuesday. Its located at the Market Pavillion at Moultrie Middle School, and will continue Tuesdays from 3:30-7:00 through September.
West Ashley's Farmers Market starts April 19th, and will continue Wednesdays from 3-7 until October at Ackerman Park.
Johns Island Farmers Market is open year-round Saturdays from 10am-2pm and is located at Charleston Collegiate School.
If its an off day, and you are looking for local produce, fresh seafood, prepared foods, or even local gifts - be sure to check out the Boone Hall Farmers Market. Their prices are great, and the selection is even better! Stop in for lunch, or grab some homemade ice cream on your way out. If you want even more of a "farm to table" experience, go across the street to the Boone Hall You-Pick fields. In season now: strawberries!
So many options to shop local, eat local, and just enjoy being a local!
