Mt. Pleasant SC Homes For Sale: A Long History
You'll find that many of the Mt. Pleasant SC homes for sale are often close to historical locations. The reason why is because the area has a very long history, dating back to 1680 when it was settled by Captain Florentia O’Sullivan. In the 1860s, Mount Pleasant was the location of the first secession convention and during the Civil War was instrumental in the defense of Fort Sumter. It was also the secret training ground for the nine-man crew of the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley. In 1928 a bridge from Charleston Peninsula to Mount Pleasant was constructed, linking the two areas together. A second bridge, the Silas N. Pearman Bridge, was added in 1966. Then in 2005, an eight-lane structure, Arthur Ravenel Bridge, replaced the two aging bridges. To this day many people seek Mt. Pleasant SC homes for sale because the area continues to advance while retaining a sense of history.
