Mount Pleasant Moms

Sun, May 14th 2017 4:00 pm by Cathy Hunnicutt Things to Do

Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there! In honor of Mother's Day, we want to share some of the best parts about being a Mom in Mount Pleasant.

Things to do:

Thanks largely in part to our amazing weather, there is so much to do here! As a Mount Pleasant mom, it is hard to imagine how our friends in the North survive months inside, debilitated by the cold weather. We are so fortunate to have mild winters, and a climate that allows us to be outdoors the majority of the year. We have parks galore, and no mater where you live, the beach is just a quick drive away. Just think, for most people, the beach is a week long vacation they plan for all year. For Mount Pleasant moms, it's a wa...

Lowcountry Landscape: Mulch or Pine Straw?

Wed, May 3rd 2017 4:15 pm by Cathy Hunnicutt Home Improvements

As Realtors, we tend to know a little bit of everything when it comes to home improvements. From which kitchen countertops are best for red wine, to the most durable flowers for hot Charleston Summers, we are asked just about every question related to homes, home maintenance and home improvement.

Today's debate: Mulch or Pine Straw for your landscaping needs.  Its a topic that is foreign to many of our Northern transplants, but pine straw is the most common flowerbed filler in the Lowcountry.  It is natural, inexpensive, and hides weeds better than mulch.  It is also low maintenance and easy to install.  Pine straw typically needs refreshed twice a year.  The downside? Its natural compo...

Kira's Customs, Blessing us with her art

Fri, Apr 28th 2017 4:38 pm by Cathy Hunnicutt Mount Pleasant Events

When we aren't selling real estate, you can find us out and about in Mount Pleasant. One of our favorite Mount Pleasant events, Blessing of the Fleet, is this Sunday, and if you have seen the poster for it, you have probably asked who did the gorgeous painting of the shrimp boat with the bridge and backdrop of an iconic lowcountry sunset.

The artist is Kira Talerico of Kira's Customs, and her artwork encompasses everything we love about Charleston. A classically trained artist from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Talerico has a long history in product design. Her work can be seen all over town, printed on beautiful wood pallets.

The artwork for Blessing of the Fleet came to T...

Local Feature: Custom Creative Concepts

Thu, Apr 20th 2017 7:00 pm by Cathy Hunnicutt Home Improvements

This week in our local feature, we are putting the spotlight on Custom Creative Concepts, an incredibly talented Charleston furniture designer. If you dream it, Nathan Pfaffman can build it! He has mastered the farmhouse style furniture that Joanna Gaines has made us all come to love.

From barn door baby gates to farmhouse dining tables, he can build just about any piece you want to add to your home. The best part, his furniture is a fraction of the cost you would pay at major furniture stores.

The baby gate is our favorite item. Many of us will need baby gates in our homes for years. Why not make it a gorgeous fixture, rather than a plastic eye sore?!

Have you ever seen a really gre...

Getting Your House Ready to Sell

Wed, Apr 19th 2017 3:00 pm by Cathy Hunnicutt Education

When you are ready to sell your home, sometimes it is difficult to see the forest through the trees. You know it needs to be "show ready," but looking at your personal home as a potential buyer can be overwhelming.  Here are a few quick tips to help your prioritize and simplify the process.

1. Declutter- this is a great starting point, and will make your move (and unpacking the next house) easier too. Check out our blog on tips to declutter.

2. Depersonalize (but not too much)- You have probably heard this one before, and while it is a good tip, there are exceptions. You want buyers to be able to picture themselves in the house, but remember that much of what makes your home so warm an...

Happy Easter from the Holy City

Sun, Apr 16th 2017 7:00 am by Cathy Hunnicutt Charleston Events

We would like to take a moment to wish all of our clients, friends and followers a very blessed Easter.

We consider ourselves especially blessed in the Holy City where God is so present in our daily lives. You'll hear mixed reasons for why Charleston has been coined "The Holy City." Some say it is because of the city's history as a refuge for religious freedom. Others say it is because of the amount of churches per capita, or that our skyline is composed of church steeples.

Surely all of these contribute to the honorable title, but what really makes this city Holy is the people. Charlestonians have an incredible ability to love unconditionally. We have seen hurricanes, earthquakes, fl...

In the age of Pintrest, Houzz, and Etsy, we are finding ourselves wanting everything from furniture to fixtures to be custom. With the creative juices flowing, a lap around the big box stores just doesn't cut it anymore. Fortunately for us, we live in an area where the talent is abundant, and just about anything you dream up can be handmade and delivered right to your doorstep.

We've worked with so many local artists that we hate to name just a few, so we are going to feature a different one each week in our blog. We will share everything from where to get a barn door baby gate, to a custom wood painting of your favorite Charleston spot. There are so many locals sharing their incredible...
